Crested Butte Wedding in August

Crested Butte is one of my favorite Colorado mountain towns for wedding photography.

Crested Butte is one of the most stunning locations in Colorado year round. Summers are known for their wildflowers, some of the best I’ve witnessed in the entire state! They also have huge aspen groves, and many scenic hikes + drives. It’s also a mountain town with year-round outdoor fun, especially great for any outdoor loving couple.

It was a mid-August day, perfect temperatures, wildflowers and stunning views. Danica & Johnny hired me to document the full day of their wedding so we could tell a full story of their adventure. From a morning spent exploring just the two of them, to a small outdoor ceremony with family, to celebrations back at their Airbnb with a private chef.

All in all, it was an incredibly ideal day in Crested Butte for a micro wedding, and one I won’t soon forget. Here’s a peek into their day.

Their day started before the sun came up, during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. I’ll never forget driving to their house and seeing all the stars shooting across the sky. Soon we caravanned up a 4×4 road to an alpine lake for sunrise where they shared a first look.

Fun fact: Danica had purchased her dress second hands just 2 weeks (!!!) before this day.

Bold. Move.

But it certainly paid off.

Most of the morning was spent exploring, reading letters from family and friends back home along the river, and drinking champagne and enjoying a picnic in an aspen grove. The scenery in Crested Butte is so perfect for wedding photography because there is so much variety, and every way you look could be a postcard.

Intimate Wedding Ceremony

Before long, we met up with family at a lovely spot on National Forest. They shared an intimate wedding ceremony here, surrounded by grazing cows (aka wedding crashers). After the ceremony everyone took off their shoes and dipped their feet in the water.

Then it was off to Secret Stash for a quick beer! An iconic pizza spot in town. Danica & Johnny both ordered a “Big Ass Margarita” and shared some snacks before heading back to their Airbnb for a private chef experience on the patio.
