Estes Park is one of the most photogenic spots in Colorado. It’s not just about the views, but the experience. Whether you’re stargazing in Moraine Park, hiking to an alpine lake, or chasing sunshine through the trees, this place offers so much more than just a pretty backdrop. It’s a chance to create real, meaningful memories together.
It’s also a great spot for proposals.. hint hint!
We kicked off their session in Moraine Park, one of my favorite wide-open spaces in Rocky Mountain National Park. The night sky in Estes Park is pretty incredible, and this is a great and relaxing way to start (or end!) a storytelling engagement photography session.
On this day, there were coyotes making noise in the distance. They were our first (but not last!) wildlife encounter of the day. Read on to find out what else we “ran” into.
From Moraine Park, we drove up to the Bear Lake Trailhead. Flashlights in hand, we began the hike just before first light. It was mid-May, but the trail greeted us with fresh snow, which is not uncommon this time of year in the high mountains!
By the time we reached Dream Lake, a brilliant pink-orange sun was coming up over the horizon and beautifully painting the snowy landscape. And the best part? We were the only souls around. The wind picked up at the lake itself, so we wandered along the trail, soaking up the views and stopping for portraits all along the way.
Dream Lake is one of the most popular hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park! The hike is only about 2 miles roundtrip, and it’s packed with incredible scenery the entire way. From small waterfalls, to mountain overlooks, and multiple lakes as well! It’s a great bang for your buck, so to say. And at sunrise in early to mid-May, it can actually be pretty quiet!
After Dream Lake, we were craving a little warm up! So we hopped in the car and drove to just one more location in the park, Endovalley.
Endovalley is one of my favorite go-to spots to take engagement photos in RMNP because it has a diverse amount of landscapes, and tends to have a little less snow and warmer temperatures than anywhere on top of the mountain.
Plus, this is where we had a moose sighting! Talk about the perfect ending to a Rocky Mountain National Park engagement session.
