How to Plan a Hiking Proposal in RMNP

First and foremost, it really helps to hire a local photographer who is familiar with the hikes and the area, like me!

Included in my proposal photography services, I actually help scout the location for you beforehand. This includes sending photos, videos, and exact GPS coordinates so you know where to be and when. That way, when it comes to one of the most exciting moments, you can put any worry at ease and stay completely wrapped up in the moment as it unfolds.

Here’s what else to keep in mind with hiking proposals:

Choose the right trail! Really consider the time of year, difficulty, and comfortability in the mountain terrain (and pssst I can help you with all of this!)
Have a Plan A, B, and C in place
Download trail maps and directions ahead of time
Consider if you’ll need a timed entry to get into RMNP
Bring all the layers! Even in summer time, you want to be prepared to be comfortable
Factor in how busy the location is and if you’re ok with other hikers or if you’d prefer a more secluded experience

Surprise Proposal at The Loch

This couple chose The Loch as their surprise hiking proposal destination! This is personally one of my favorite hikes in the park because of the epic bowl of mountains surrounding the lake, and it’s not usually too busy! Especially if you know when to go. 😉

This proposal surprise went flawlessly. The couple arrived at the pre-determined location, right on time, enjoyed a snack, and then walked out onto the frozen lake for the big moment. She was completely surprised. I was so proud of how beautifully we pulled this off!

Afterwards, we celebrated with a few we-just-freaking-got-engaged photos to capture the excitement of it all.
