On an unusually warm evening in March, just before the sun began dipping behind the mountains, this Lily Lake dock proposal unfolded.
For her, it felt super natural. They were going to a nice dinner in Estes Park, Colorado that just happened to be near this beautiful location. One popular for spotting wildlife.
They pulled up, walked the short distance to the lake.
While she was looking through the binoculars, he dropped down to one knee. A total and complete surprise.
And I was there to help plan and capture every moment of it.
You see, she knew an engagement was on the horizon this year, but she had no idea he even had the ring yet!
Our couldn’t have gone better. Take a look!

So while they did have dinner reservations, they were actually later than he said. While they were all dressed up and the excitement was turned all the way up, we wandered the lake for an hour to capture engagement photos.
Lily Lake is so ideal for engagement photos in Rocky Mountain National Park because it’s a short and easy flat loop around the lake with stunning mountain views in every direction. There are also lovely forest areas, aspen groves. And if you know where to go, a beautiful look at the Continental Divide!
And you really can get lucky here and spot wildlife! Lots of bird action, tiger salamanders, and even moose in the wetlands here!

Capturing a proposal or engagement in Rocky Mountain National Park isn’t just about beautiful photos. It’s also about knowing the right place and time to get the best photos (and the most privacy)!
As a local Estes Park resident and frequent flyer in Rocky Mountain National Park, I can certainly help you pick the best locations! Whether that’s a surprise proposal at the Lily Lake dock, or someplace completely different, I’ll be there to help capture it all.
