Why a Couples Photoshoot Is the Perfect Proposal Cover
A couples photoshoot is one of the best covers for a surprise proposal for a few reasons. First, you’re already dressed up and feeling your best, which isn’t always easy to coordinate when you’re proposing in the middle of a big hike or on what your partner thinks is just another ordinary day.
Second, there’s a lot more control built in from a photography perspective. As your photographer, I’m able to actually communicate with you before the big moment. That means I can guide you into the right positioning and make sure the lighting and timing is just right.
And honestly, it takes a lot of pressure off the whole situation! If there are crowds, weather, wildlife, or anything unexpected, we can pivot together in real time without anything (or anyone) being thrown off!

A Rocky Mountain Couples Session Turned Surprise Proposal
So, here’s the back story.
This couple reached out to me and booked a couples photoshoot for their first visit to Rocky Mountain National Park (excellent idea).
A few days after they booked, I received a seperate email from him about planning a proposal during the session!
That’s an easy YES from me.
Here’s how we planned it.
We started the photoshoot in a quiet spot in the aspen groves, where we could ease into photos, shake out any nerves, and get them comfortable in front of the camera. I gave them prompts and gentle direction while also stepping back and letting their personalities shine through.
Once I felt everyone was warmed up and in a flow state, we moved to an open meadow for the “the spot”.
In the meadow, I had them stand together for a few photos before suggesting a photo where they walk toward one another. When she turned to walk away from him, he stayed back.
When she turned around, she immediately saw him down on one knee!
It was a total surprise.
And together, we pulled it off flawlessly.
